THE HENCKEL GENEALOGY:
The following is on page 22 of "The Henckel Genealogy":
11. Maria Catherine Henckel born May 10, 1711 Daudenzell, Germany; baptized May 17, 1711 Evangelical Lutheran Church of Daudenzell; died October 1785 (?). (See Branch VII this genealogy.)
The following is a selection from page 1104 of "The Henckel Genealogy":
7 MARIA CATHERINE HENCKEL, the eleventh and seventh surviving child of Reverend Anthony Jacob and Maria Elizabeth Dentzer Henckel, German emigrants of 1717, was born May 10, 1711, in Daudenzell, Germany; died between October 15th, and November 3rd in 1785, near Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland; married (1st) (presumably) in New Hanover Township, Philadelphia (now Montgomery) County, Pennsylvania, to John George Geiger.
Early records of the Falckners Swamp or New Hanover Lutheran Church, as well as the diary of the Reverend Anthony Jacob Henckel, one of its first pastors, have been lost or at least have not recently been located. Early arrivals from Germany were here at the invitation of William Penn and not required to register or take the oath of allegiance required later by the Authorities.
No record, therefore, is found of the birth or date of emigration, marriage, death, or burial of John George Geiger. It appears from the will of Maria Catherine Geiger (nee Henckel) Apple (Apfel) they were the parents of at least four (4) children.
John George Geiger, however, died prior to September 21, 1740, as Catherine Geiger evidently a widow, stood sponsor at the baptism of John Henry Fortunee in the Lutheran Church at Monocacy. She was again a sponsor in the same church as the wife of Peter Apfel (Appel) for Catherine Shinn on January 19, 1741. (Records Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick, Maryland. Lutheran Church Records, Historical Society of Maryland, page 12).
Maria Catherine (Henckel) Geiger, therefore, married (2nd) prior to January 19, 1741, to Johann Peter Apfel (Apple) possibly the emigrant who arrived on the Pink ship "John and William" and took the oath of allegiance at Philadelphia on date of arrival, October 17, 1732.
Johann Peter Apfel, known as Peter Apple, died on his farm near Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, between March 2, and April 20, 1779, as indicated in settlement of his estate. Both Peter Apple and his wife are buried on the Peter Apple farm adjacent to the Apple Church Cemetery. Church records indicate they were the parents of six (6) children.
The date of removal of Peter Apple to the vicinity of Thurmont was possibly in 1754 as indicated in land transactions.
On November 11, 1754, a resurvey for Peter Apple was granted for a tract designated "Arnolds Delight".
In 1760, Peter Apple transferred one acre to the district for school purposes. (Confirmed by deed.)
During the year, a log school house was erected which was used also for church purposes. This building was enlarged and kept in repair until 1826 when it was replaced by a stone structure.
This building, known as Apple's Church, with burial plots adjacent is still in use. In 1926 it was rededicated, being the 100th anniversary of the stone church building and the 166th anniversary of the original log church. Reverent P. E. Heimer and a number of descendants of Peter and Catherine (Henckel) Apple participated in the ceremonies.
Will of Peter Apfel (Apple) dated March 2, 1779, proved April 20, 1779 (Will book G M-1, page 122 included as follows:
