BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:

The following in on page 306 of History and genealogy of the Hinds family (Portland, Me.: A. H. Hinds, 1899) in a section called "Unattached families".

2545. Byram Hinds, son of Levi and Huldah (Byram) Hinds, born in Knox Co., Tenn., March 5, 1792, and died April 23, 1875; married Oct. 2, 1813, Elizabeth Childress, who was born June 5, 1798, and died Jan. 14, 1870. She was the daughter of John Childress, who was a soldier in the Revolutionary war. He was a farmer by occupation, and served in the war of 1812, under Gen. Jackson, being an ensign in the army. He was mustered out of service after the battle of the "Horsehoe," and drew a pension to the time of his death.

*2555. i. BYRAM W., b. April 14, 1837.
2556. ii. ALFRED LEONIDAS, d. in 1864. He was a lieutenant in General Roday's command of Confederates, and died in the Confederate army.
2557. iii. MONTGOMERY BENTON, b. Dec. 25, 1840, killed at the battle of Chickamauga, Sept. 20, 1863. He was a member of Gen. Joe Wheeler's 19th Alabama Regiment, and was killed in the famous charge against Gen. Thomas' Corps.
2558. iv. CLARBORN W., d. May 5, 1898. He was a member of Gen. Johnson's escort, and was mustered out of service at Greensboro, N. C., in 1865.

2555. Byram W. Hinds, son of Byram and Elizabeth (Childress) Hinds (Levi), born April 14, 1837; married Dec. 27, 1860, Maryant Rebecca Rickett, who was born Oct. 6, 1843. He was a lieutenant in Company B, 48th Alabama Regiment, during the Civil war, and was discharged at Richmond, Va., in 1862, for physical disability. He rejoined the army in October of the same year, with the 3d Alabama Regiment, and was on detached service throughout the whole war, serving with Gen. Joseph E. Johnson's escort, and surrendering with him at Greensboro, N. C., May 5, 1865.
