THE HENCKEL GENEALOGY:

The following is a selection from pages 897-98 of "The Henckel Genealogy":

69 Benjamin Hinkle (Henkel) born March 29, 1751, two months and eight days after the death of his father at Germantown, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. No record of his death found, but he appears in the 1820 Census of Lincoln County, Tennessee living near his eldest son, Joseph. At this time he was enumerated with second wife, Mary Ann Harwood and had with him four (4) sons and three (3) daughters. This evidently included his step daughter, Mary Ann (Salomy) Harwood.

Benjamin Hinkle married (1st) about 1777 Susannah Bryan, daughter of Joseph and Alice Bryan. She died about 1811 in Rowan County, North Carolina. To them were born thirteen (13) children. (Bible record)

Benjamin Hinkle through his guardians, Dewald Endt and William Levering, received September 2, 1766 his allotment of one-ninth of his father's estate at Germantown. His portion adjoined the tract allotted his brother, Anthony. No disposal of this property found.

The date of his removal to Rowan County has not been determined but was very probably prior to his 1st marriage in 1777. The Moravian Church record of the baptism of his eldest son on September 20, 1778 by Reverend Valentine Beck indicates he was a resident of Rowan County at that time.

In August 1781, Benjamin Henkel was appointed overseer of the road on Dutchmans Creek from Butlers Fork to Enochs Ferry on the Yadkin River.

In 1810 he was sole heir to the estate of his cousin, Philip Christopher Hinkle, son of George Rudolphus, who died in Rowan County.

The will of Joseph Bryan recorded March 4, 1805 Jefferson County, Kentucky included daughter, Susannah, eighth child, wife of Benjamin Hinkle.

The minutes of the "Old Dutch Meeting House" included the name, date, and place of birth and baptism of each of the thirteen children of Benjamin and Susannas Hinkle copied from the Family Bible by the Reverend Gottlieb Shober, pastor, ]778-1799. Included also were the following items:

"His second marriage to Mary Ann Harwood, widow of Henry, occurred June 16, 1812 (Salisbury, North Carolina marriage record). No known issue."
