RLH:
The following is from an article by Robert L. Hess in the HENCKEL GENEALOGICAL BULLETIN (Vol 33, No 2, Fall 2002) entitled "Jacob Hinkle of Spread Eagle Tavern". Numbers in brackets indicate notes which follow.
10. Jonathan Hinckle was born 9 May 1785,[1] Lincoln County, North Carolina. At age nine he was bound out as an apprentice in Lincoln County until age twenty-one, and in March 1796 the apprenticeship bond was transferred to [Jonathan's remarried mother] Christina Light/Sight/Sides.[2] In 1807, when [his brother] William Hinkle sold land in York District/County, South Carolina, "Mr. Jonathan Hinkle" testified that he saw William sign the deed.[3] About 1807 Jonathan married Mary[4] Gilmore.[5] By 1810 they were residing near Joseph Hinkle in Chester County, South Carolina.[6] Five of Jonathan Hinkle's children were baptized in 1821 at the home of Joseph Hinkle in Chester County.[7] Jonathan with his family was still residing there in 1829.[8] He died 25 September 1846, and Mary died 5 March 1853.[9]
Further research findings on Jonathan and his family were published in the HENCKEL GENEALOGICAL BULLETIN, Volume 7 (1976), pages 278-280.
