Aldridge was named an heir in the will of his uncle, Nimrod Hitt, probated in Culpeper County on 19 September 1825.
Aldridge and his family moved to Tazewell County, Illinois about 1830. Aldridge purchased "Walnutwood Farm" in about 1825, and his brother-in-law, James S. B. Allensworth owned "Walnut Grove Farm". The farms were adjacent to each other in Hopedale Township, Tazwell County, Illinois.
The 1860 Federal Census, Tazwell County, Illinois, Hopedale Twp, enumerated 17 July 1860, lists: Aldridge Hitt age 57, farmer, born in Virginia; wife Catharine age 50, born in Virginia; dau. Josephine age 18; dau. Elly age 14; son John age 11; son Peter age 8; dau. Catherine age 4; children all born in Illinois. Living with the family: married dau. Harriet Wilson age 20, born in Illinois.
The 1870 Federal Census, Tazewell county, Illinois, Hopedale Twp, enumerated 20 August 1870, lists: Hitt, Aldridge age 68 born in Virginia, farmer; wife Catherine age 59 born in Virginia; son John age 21; son Peter age 19; dau. Kate age 14; children all born in Illinois. Listed with the family: dau. McQueen, Mary L. age 33; grandson Ernest age 13; grandson Gerald age 11; grandson Dexter age 10; granddau. Ellen age 8; all born in Illinois.
Aldridge is said to have died at the age of 94 leaving 50 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
