PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX LISTS AND BIRTH DATE:
In 1804 Alexander appears for the first time in the Fauquier Co. Personal Property Tax List; he is a tithable in the household of his widowed mother. A tithable is defined as a free white male over 16 years of age. That Alexander is listed as a tithable for the first time in 1804 suggests that he was born about 1788. From 1804 to 1806 and later from 1809 to 1810 he in his mother's household. In 1807 Alexander and his brothers Presley and Harrison have a joint entry. In 1815 Alexander has his own entry. He has no property and pays no tax. He is probably in his mother's household in 1812 and in 1813 and he may be there in 1814 and from 1816 to 1818. "Olli" in 1810 is probably Alexander.
MILITARY SERVICE:
In the "War of 1812 Service Records" database on ancestry.com there is an Alexander Hitt who was a private in Bramham's 41st Regiment of Virginia Militia. Alexander's brother Thadeus was in the same regiment.
EARL J. HITT:
The following was copied from the database of Earl J. Hitt in WorldConnect (no longer existent):
The Fauquier County, Virginia Personal Tax records lists Alexander in 1804 with three tithables, in 1806 with two, in 1807 with three, in 1809 with two, and in 1810 with two tithables. This would tend to indicate that Alexander was married and had children by 1804.
It is believed that Alexander served in the War of 1812, 41st Regiment (Bramham's), Virginia Militia.
