In 1845 in a Mississippi state census B. L. Hitt (2,3), Marshall Hitt (3,4), and Benjamin Hitt (1,1) are in Newton Co. There are 2 males and 3 females in B. L. Hitt's household.

On July 16, 1838 he bought 200 acres from Daniel Hitt (patented to him 5/15/1837) for $1400 (C/309), and the following day he paid $3425 for 560 acres (C/309). The 200 acre tract was subsequently bought at auction by Charles Hitt for $350.80 (E/175), and in December 1839 Benjamin L. sold the 560 acres for $1400 (E/331).

On 5/1/1860 a 43.72 acre tract was patented to Benjamin L. Hitt in S4 T8N R13E in Newton Co., Mississippi.
