Notes
General:
In 1850 Hubbard N. Reese is living in Tuscaloosa Co., Alabama with his wife Sarah (Mayfield) and 6 children. In 1860 he is in Freestone Co., Texas with a different wife named Eunice. Seven children are living with them. Eunice is the mother of the youngest two, and they were born in Mississippi. We know that Hubbard lived for several years in Newton Co., Mississippi, so it seems probable that he remarried there. There are no marriage records because the courthouse burned in 1876. According to the census index at ancestry.com, the only 'Eunice' or 'Unice' in Newton Co. in 1850 is Unice Hitt, a daughter of Marshall Hitt, who lived about 5 miles from Hubbard Reese. Oswall Hitt lived less than 2 miles from Hubbard. It therefore seems highly likely, although not certain, that 'Eunice' in the 1860 census is Unice Hitt.
