PROBATE:
Probate records for Henry Hitt are in Box 180, Package 6 (image 34/409) of Laurens Co. Estate Papers. They can be seen online at familysearch.org.
On May 22, 1875 Martin Hitt, Raney Hitt, and Crane J. Knight are bound in the amount of $1000 unto the Judge of Probate of Laurens Co. to guarantee that Martin Hitt will faithfully fulfill his duties as administrator of the estate of Henry Hitt, dec'd.
In late 1878 Isaac G. Lowe, a creditor of the estate of Henry Hitt, dec'd, petitioned the Probate Court to order the administrator to show cause why the estate should not be settled. Martin Hitt told the court that he was desirous of settling the estate, and the court ordered that it be settled on February 6, 1879. For whatever reason it wasn't.
On September 1, 1881 Martin Hitt made oath that the sale bill and the appraisal bill cannot be found in the Probate Office and that the amount of the sale was 49 dollars and some cents. On September 6, 1881 Isaac G. Lowe and Raney Hitt made oath that the claims of Henry Hitt's estate on Henry L. Hitt, Henry L. Hitt, Jun., and Ella Hitt are doubtful and probably worthless. On that date the court discharged the administrator
from his trust but ordered that he be given leave to sell or compromise one note on H. L. Hitt for $713.84, one on same for $127.38, one on Ella Hitt for $25.00, and one on H. L. Hitt, Jun. for $50, it appearing to the court that the same are valueless (image 57). A summary of the estate is on images 55 and 56.
