LAND:

On March 7, 1825 Larkin Hitt of Laurens District, South Carolina sold to Thomas Hitt of the same place for $306 that plantation of 102 acres on which he was then living situated in Laurens District on Bank's Creek. According to a plat it adjoins land already owned by Thomas. The deed is signed Larkin Hitt, and the witnesses are John W. Moore, Marshall Pollard and John Hitt. (Laurens Co. Deed Records M/64)

BETHABARA BAPTIST CHURCH:

On page 4 of the Minutes of the Bethabara Baptist Church in Laurens Co., SC (LDS microfilm 22728) Larkin Hitt is the 34th entry in the list of male members. This list was probably created in 1805 and then later added on to. To the right of his name: "Recv'd by experience August 8, 1818 Excommunicated Feb 1825". On July 8, 1820 he was chosen as Church Clerk.

September 7, 1822: "The church tollerated brother Larkin Hitt to exercise a publick gift within the bounds of the church"

On May 10, 1823 he was delegated to cite another member to a meeting and then on February 12, 1825: "In Conference Excluded Larkin Hitt and Nancy Clark".

WIVES:

Larkin was about 25 years old in 1810, and it appears that he already had 2 young sons. His youngest son Hamilton was born about 1840. Larkin must have had 2 wives. In 1860 a widow P. Hitt (60, SC) is living in Laurens Co. (post office Cross Hill) in the household of Wm. Lindsey, a tailor. It is tempting to think that she is Larkins's second wife, but she is not in the 1850 census.

EARL J. HITT:

The following was copied from the database of Earl J. Hitt in WorldConnect (no longer existent):

It is believed that Larkin served in the War of 1812; Tucker's Regiment, South Carolina Militia.

Birth: ABT 1785 Death: AFT 1850 in Laurens County, South Carolina
