In 1850 Patrick Hitt (13) follows Hamilton Hitt (10) in the household of Larkin Hitt. He may be Larkin's son, but the fact that he follows Hamilton suggests that he may be a relative living with Larkin rather than Larkin's son.

MILITARY SERVICE:
According to Confederate State Roster -- South Carolina, Vol. II (Unit Roster), Patrick Hitt, Peter Hitt, Robert Hitt, and Henry L. Hitt were in Inf. 3rd Bn. Co. B along with Abraham Hollingsworth, Robert T. Hollingsworth, Isaac G. Lowe, and other men from Laurens District.

3rd Infantry Battalion [also called Lauren's Battalion and James' Battalion] was organized in November, 1861, at Camp Hampton, near Columbia, South Carolina. It contained four companies, with three additional companies joining the unit at White Point. Most of the men were from Laurens County, and a few were recruited in Richland and Fairfield counties. The Battalion was reorganized in April 1862.
