LAND TRANSACTION:

On October 2, 1837 Leurana Hitt, late Leurana Kabler, daughter of William Kabler, dec'd, of Culpeper Co. sold to John Hitt of the same county for $425 a tract of 117 acres in Culpeper Co. adjoining the lands of William Smith, John Smith, Robert Smith, the late William Wallis and Peter Murphy, being the same land devised to the said Leurana by her father William Kabler, dec'd. Signed Leurana (her X mark) Kabler. (Culpeper Deed Records 3/373) On the same date John Hitt gave a mortgage on this tract to William G. Allan, trustee, to secure a debt of $283.33 1/3 to Leurana. He had given her two promissory notes, one for $141.66 2/3 due 12 months from date and another for the same amount due on or before October 2, 1839. (3/374)
