In the Name of God Amen I James Lockett of the County of Amelia being in perfect mind and memory do make this my Last will and Testament that is to Say first and principally of All I give and Recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God who at first gave it me not Doubting but I shall Receive the Same again by the Mighty power of God and as for my body I Recommend it to the Earth to be buried at the Discretion of my Executors hereafter named and as for such Worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased Almighty God to bless me with in this Life my Just Debts and funeral Charges being first paid I give Demise [sic] and Dispose of in the following manner and form Item my will and Desire is that all my whole Estate both Real and Personal be Equally Divided between my Seven Brothers Benjamin John Thomas William Halcaat Joseph Abraham & four sisters Susanna Jane Margaret & Winnefred to them and their Heirs for Ever.

I appoint my brother John Lockett whole and Sole Exect'r of this my last Will and Testament hereby Revoking all other Wills in Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and affixed my Seal this Twenty Sixth Day of May one Thousand Seven hundred and fifty Eight

The phrase "as hereto made by me appoint this only to be my last Will -- --" has been written interlinearly in very small letters before the line which begins "in Witness whereof". At a court held for Amelia Co. March 22, 1759 this will was proved by the oaths of William Russell and John Drinkwater, and a certificate for obtaining a probate was granted to John Lockett, who with William Wily, his security, entered into and acknowledged bond as the law requires.
