LAND in PENNSYLVANIA:
On page 20 of Julius McCurdy's book The McCurdys of Stone Mountain, Georgia is a surveyor's map of a tract of land in Newton Township containing 330 1/2 acres which was surveyed June 19, 1787 for James McCurdy in pursuance of a warrant issued May 17, 1787. It adjoins a smaller tract surveyed the same day for his brother John.
GEORGIA & TENNESSEE:
In late 1796 and early 1797 four men (William Appleby, Robert Cowden, James Leeper, Allen Leeper) made a journey from Elbert Co., Georgia to Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania and back. See McCurdy Pioneers of North America by Clyde W. McCurdy, page 79. On December 8, 1796 they spent the night with James McCurdy.
James McCurdy remained in Cumberland Co. after many of his relatives and neighbors moved to Georgia. He was still there in 1796, but he did later move to Georgia. On page 80 Clyde W. McCurdy says, "We have no knowledge on James McCurdy's family, that has been documented at this time. We do know from land deeds in Elbert County, that he was there until about 1808. It is believed he moved to Tennessee circa 1808-1810. In 1812, his name and that of his son, James McCurdy Jr. both appear on a Bedford County, Tennessee tax list. He is thought to have died in Bedford County by 1815."
