BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:

The following sketch by Mrs. Carol Myles is on page 621 of "History of Benton County, Arkansas" (Benton County Heritage Committee, 1991):

"Robert Dickson McCurdy, my great-great grandfather, was born in Washington Co., AR on December 1, 1836 but by mid-1837 he was living in Benton Co.; and there is where he spent his entire life. Robert's father, Allen McCurdy, died between March 1837 and September 1837, possibly in Benton Co. Robert's mother, Sarah Sharp Dickson, was the daughter of Robert and Esther Moore Dickson who were part of the early pioneers who settled in Benton Co. in the early 1830's.
Sarah S. Dickson was born on January 15, 1819 in Rutherford Co., TN and died in late March 1892 in Benton Co. After Allen's death Sarah, known as "Sallie", married John Breathwaite. He raised Robert. They were all farmers and apple growers. On January 13, 1861 Robert married Armilda Jeffries, duaghter of James and Obedient Jeffries. Robert and Armilda were members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, which his grandfather, Robert Dickson, helped build. Robert was ordained Deacon of the church on January 29, 1893 which he still held the office at the time of his death. Both Robert and Armilda McCurdy are buried at the Ricketts Cemetery.
When Sarah married Allen McCurdy in 1834-35 he was a young widower with three small children. Sarah, a young girl of 15 or 16 had a ready-made family! Within a year of her marriage she was a widow with a baby son and three step-children. Allen's family took in the three children and raised them."

The following is from a biographical sketch of Jasper Marvin McCurdy on page 620:

"I, Nellie McCurdy, was born September 19, 1910 on my grandparents farm located about four miles northeast of Bentonville, in the "Lone Star" community.
My grandparents, Robert Dickson McCurdy and Armilda Jeffries McCurdy were early settlers to Benton County. They were married January 13, 1861, and spent the rest of their lives on their farm where they reared four sons and two daughters. The oldest child, Mary Elizabeth, called Mollie, then Harvey, George, Esther, Donald and Marvin. Marvin, the youngest, became my father.
Grandfather died on December 2, 1908 and grandma died September 3, 1913. I do not remember them but Uncle Donald bought the farm after grandma died, and I remember visiting there when a child. One of my fondest memories is swinging on a rope swing from a very large cedar tree in the front year. The tree was planted there by my grandparents. There was a well in the yard, near the road. The water was drawn in a bucket by a rope and pulley.
My father, Jasper Marvin McCurdy was born November 29, 1883 and mother, Eva Grace Hornsby was born September 22, 1890, both natives of Benton Co. They were married October 23, 1909 in Bentonville. To them were born nine children, . . ."
