Notes
General:
There are two Thomas McCurdys born in Arkansas, probably in Washington Co., in the early 1840's. One married Margaret Kifer and in the 1920 census was living in Pontotoc Co., Oklahoma with one of his sons. He died in 1927. The other one lived in Hopkins Co., Texas for a while and then moved to Indian Territory. In the 1920 census he was living with one of his sons in Pontotoc Co., Oklahoma. He died before 1930.
These Thomas McCurdys are second cousins and are the sons of William K. McCurdy (1817-1877) and David E. McCurdy, who went to California to participate in the Gold Rush and apparently never returned. But which son corresponds to which father? The presence in Hopkins Co. of another son of David E. McCurdy is the principal evidence.

J. E. is probably the John who was 11 in 1860. J. B. Appleby (James Barnett, son of Hezekiah) lives at 173/178, and thus we conjecture that David E. McCurdy married a daughter of Hezekiah Appleby. In 1880 the widow is living in Hopkins Co., Texas with her son John E. McCurdy (31, Ar Tn Tn, farmer) as Louisa J. McCurdy (59, Tn Ga Ky). In 1900 she is still living in Hopkins Co. with her son as Jane McCurdy (79, Wd/4/3, Tn Ga Ky). Her maiden name might be Louisa Jane Appleby. The 'S' in 'S. J.' in the 1870 census is clearly an 'S', not an 'L'.
Not findable in 1870.
