MCCURDY and APPLEBY INTERMARRIAGES:

William McCurdy and David Appleby each had six children. Three of William McCurdy's children (Thomas S., James P., and Mary Elizabeth) married three of David Appleby's (Nancy M., Sarah M., and James Newton, respectively). All three weddings took place in Greene Co., Missouri. William McCurdy's parents were David McCurdy and Elizabeth Appleby. Elizabeth's sister Grissy married David's brother James. Those marriages took place in Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania.

The parents of Elizabeth and Grissy were William Appleby and Elizabeth McKeehan. The second wife of that William Appleby was Nancy (Agnes) McCurdy, an older sister of David McCurdy, so that William Appleby was simultaneously David's father-in-law and brother-in-law. David Appleby was a son of Nancy McCurdy and William Appleby, and William McCurdy was a son of Nancy's brother David McCurdy and Elizabeth Appleby, so that David Appleby and William McCurdy were first cousins in the McCurdy line. William McCurdy's mother was a half-sister of David Appleby, so that David Appleby was William McCurdy's half uncle in the Appleby line. Thus the three marriages first mentioned above were between second cousins in the McCurdy line and between first half-cousins once removed in the Appleby line.

Another intermarriage occurred in Washington County, Arkansas about 1837. William McCurdy's eldest son David E. McCurdy probably married Louisa Jane Appleby, a daughter of Hezekiah Appleby.
