General:
The following is from "Descendants of Dennis Mero of Falmouth, Maine, Dorchester, Mass., and Norwich, Conn." (David T. Robinson, New England Historical Genealogical Register, Vol. 149, pgs 155-72). See article for more information.
1. DENNIS MERO is first recorded in 1675, at Purpooduck in Falmouth, York County, Maine. As "Dennis Morah," he signed with others a petition, dated 2 February 1675/6, asking that the commanders appointed to train soldiers to defend Falmouth be changed. He appraised the estate of Nathaniel Mitton in 1682, and witnessed a deed of Sampson Penley in February 1684. Probably about 1673, Dennis married Penley's eldest daughter JANE PENLEY, and they lived in Purpoodock until the Indian raids during the French and Indian Wars forced them to remove to Dorchester, Massachusetts.
Dennis Maroh was admitted to the church at Dorchester between August and December 1696. Jane may have been the "Goodwife Maroh" who was seated in the "third Seat by the Pulpitt." Three of their younger sons, Nehemiah, Dennis, and Richard, were baptized there 31.11 [January] 1697, and some of the older children were subsequently baptized as young adults.
