Notes
General:
This Samuel McCurdy is of the right age to be the Samuel McCurdy described in the following undated newspaper clipping, which can be seen at Find-a-Grave Memorial # 20314274. The memorial says that Samuel's remains were brought to Mt. Comfort 9 Sep 1862. The Battle of Wilson's Creek, also known as the Battle of Oak Hills, was fought near Springfield, Missouri on August 10, 1861. A detailed description can be seen at Wikipedia.
"On Sunday last, 9th instant, the remains of Capt. S. R. Bell, Serg't Wm. Brown, and Privates Samuel McCurdy and Henry Fullbright, having been brought here (their late home) from Oak Hills, where they gave their lives to their country, were interred in Mount Comfort cemetery, three miles from Fayetteville. The remains were escorted from town by the Masonic fraternity, of which Capt. Bell was a member, and the Companies of Capts. Brusle and Viglini, together with a large number of citizens. They were all buried with military honors, and Capt. B. with the solemn rites of Masonry. The exercises were solemn and imposing; and the large concourse of citizens assembled showed the esteem in which the deceased patriots had been held by their fellow-citizens of Washington county."
