BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:

Find-a-Grave Memorial # 6947728:

Ellis Neece, a church Elder, s. of John Neece, Jr. and Mahulda "Hulda" Ellis, b. Oct. 2, 1803 at Norris Creek, Jefferson County, TN. He d. June 21, 1882 at Aurora, MO.

Ellis was the oldest sibling who either migrated with his family directly from Lincoln County, Tennessee to Lawrence County, Missouri, or temporarily migrated to Illinois and finally settled at Lawrence or an adjoining County, Missouri.

In circa 1824 likely at Lincoln County, TN, Ellis m. 1) Anna Hale Rees. She was b. Mar. 7, 1807 at Virginia and d. Dec. 20, 1867 at Aurora, MO. They had at least 14 children, the eldest eight at TN before 1837, the rest at MO through 1852: John, Sophia, Robert, Mahulda, Harrison, Charlotte T., Permelia, Nancy M., William M., Spencer, Alcy Ann, Elizabeth, America B., and Sarah.

In the 1830 census the family was residing at Lincoln County, TN, but by 1840 was residing in southwest Missouri at Barry County east of Joplin. By the 1850 census the family had permanently settled northward at Lawrence County, MO.

On May 3, 1868 at a Baptist church at Lawrence County, MO, Ellis m. 2) the widow Mary E. (Baker) Long, by whom he had no known children.

Ellis d. testate having written his will Aug. 17, 1877 proved at Mount Vernon, MO July 22, 1882. The will left 24 acres of land and the household and kitchen furniture to wife Mary during her natural life, with the 24 acres at Mary's death to descend to her daughter Stacy E. (Long) Ryker. The balance of the estate was to be divided equally among his own children, they in the order stated in the will being: John Neece, Sophia (Daniel) Jones, Robert Neece, William M. Neece, Charlotte T. (Jacob B.) Wheat, Permelia (Elliot B.) Robinson, Nancy (Neil) Gist, America (Thos. B.) Elsey, Elizabeth (John W.) Smart, Sarah (James M.) Askins, Harrison Neece, and Alcy (Levi. G.) Hillhouse. Daughter "Hulda" Elsey, wife of William C. Elsey, had for nearly six years enjoyed possession of Ellis' old home, and was not to share in the division of the estate. Ellis appointed son Harrison and son-in-law Levi G. Hillhouse as executors (Lawrence County, MO Probate Records.)

The only child not included in Ellis Neece's will is son Spencer, who was living in 1850 but cannot be found thereafter.
