In a letter dated September 23, 1892 from Martin Ball's brother Lewis Ball to his cousin Atty. B. W. Ball, Laurens, South Carolina, Lewis says, "Now about your uncles and Aunts families in Mississippi.You know of course that Martin Ball, my brother married your aunt Sallie Ball.He dide in 1859, leaving five daughters and two sons: namely . . ."
