OBITUARY:
Find-a-Grave Memorial # 14115636:
MR. ELISHA FRANKLIN PARKER,
Mr. Elisha Franklin Parker, age 79 years, died at his home about four miles west of Somerset last Saturday morning at 2:30 o'clock. Mr. Parker had been suffering for three years from partial paralysis, but was able to be up and look after his business affair until last April, when he suffered a more serious paralytic stroke. Since that time he had been an invalid and during the last month his strength failed very rapidly to the end.
Mr. Parker was born in Wayne County March 13, 1836 and was a son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Louis Parker, with whom he came to this country at the age of twelve years, and lived the remainder of his life on a farm at Parker's mill, famous for its beautiful peurile grounds.
He followed the milling business and farming all his life.
He was a brother of the late lamented Dr. J. W. F. Parker, who died about six years ago.
In 1855, he was married to Miss Eliza Ann Gover, sister to Mr. Bourne Gover, of this city, she preceeding him to the grave about thirty years ago.
Mr. Parker was a life-long member of the M. E. church, South and lived a consistent Christian life, one worthy of emulation. He was an example of the best type of manhood and citizenship of Pulaski standing for right and the best interest of this country. He was a loving father and one more loyal to home cannot be found.
He was of a sweet gentle disposition; kind and always stood ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Many times has he gladened the hearts of those who came to his mill suffering from hardships, by his kind treatment and willingness to assist them.
He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. David Allen, of Richland, Oregon; Mrs. Price Smith of Brooksville, Ky; Mrs. J. B. Jones Misses Sallie, Sophia and Louise Parker, of this city, and two son[s] W. D. Parker, Rhea Colorado, and John Parker, of this city.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. K. Dickey at the residence, Sunday afternoon, and interment took place in the family burying ground at Cedar Hill. -- Somerset Leader.
SOURCE OF NAME:
The husband of Elisha's aunt Elizabeth Lockett was Elisha Franklin. After his death Lewis Parker became the guardian of their 4 children. It seems obvious that Lewis Parker held him in high esteem and named his son for him. See http://azstrong.tripod.com/jd_letha/legacy/902.htm for more information about Elisha Franklin.
