Notes
General:
BIRTH DATE:
According to the account of W. H. M. A. in the Boston Transcript, which can be found in Parker in America, Elizabeth was born 12 Mar 1645. Her birth date can be found in "Massachusetts, Town Clerk...d Town Records, 1626-2001", Film # 007011120, Middlesex, Woburn, Births, marriages, deaths 1641-1843, pg 1, image 8/272. This is a very neat, easily readable, handwritten copy of the original records. Elizabeth's entry is
Parker -- Elizabeth daughter of James Parker born 12th. of 1st. mos: 1645.
In the case of the 11th and 12th months a clarification in square brackets has routinely been added. Thus "4th. of 12th. mo: 1644 [4 Feb. 1644-5]". We might reasonably expect that the 12th day of the first month in 1645 would be 12 Mar 1646 in New Style. However, no clarification in brackets appears beside Elizabeth's birth date, and generally there is no such clarification for days in the first month prior to the 25th day (March 25 = Lady Day). So it appears that W. H. M. A. is right and Elizabeth was born in 1645.
Elizabeth and 5 of her siblings were baptized in Chelmsford 1 Feb 1657. The baptismal record says that she will be 12 years old on 4 Mar 1657 (4: 1m: 1657). Thus she was born 4 Mar 1645, which is a confirmation of W. H. M. A. See notes under her father.
So January 1645 (N.S.) is the 11th month of 1644 (O.S) and February 1645 (N.S) is the 12th month of 1644 (O.S.), but March 1645 (N.S.) is the 1st month of 1645 (O.S.). On March 4, 1645 (N.S.) a person in England would have said that we are still in the year 1644 but that we are in the first month of 1645. March 4, 1645 (N.S.) can be specified two ways in Old Style. March 4, 1645 (N.S.) is March 4, 1644 (O.S.) but the 4th day of the first month of 1645 (O.S.)
MARRIAGE:
The article in the Boston Transcript says the following about Elizabeth, the eldest daughter of James Parker:
Elizabeth, b. Mch. 12, 1645; m. Samuel Geary of Roxbury
An Elizabeth Parker did marry Samuel Gary in Roxbury 6 Dec 1669, but that Elizabeth Parker is a different person. She is described as follows on page 36 of The Gary Genealogy:
He [Samuel Gary] married first, Dec. 6, 1669, Elizabeth Parker, born April 29, 1649 in Roxbury, daughter of Edmund and Elizabeth (Howe) Parker of Roxbury and Lancaster, Mass. She died Nov. 20, 1676. He married second, June 19, 1677, Martha Clark, . . .
