BURIAL:
Find-a-Grave Memorial # 26790649:
Son of Mordecai Boughan and Eve Baumgardner, both of Virginia.
Maried Margaret "Peggy" Hitt about 1803 in Virginia.
Spelling is seen as Boughan, Baughan, Boughn, and Baughn in surnames of his children.
His given name is seen variously as Lystra, Lyster, Leister. His headstone is misspelled as Lysstra.
Lystra Boughan was the first burial on the farm of his brother, Henry, whose land was leased to the Sugar Creek Baptist Church on 17 Nov 1838 "for the purpose of building a meeting house and burying ground". The land was sold to the church trustees in 1849 by Henry's son, Benjamin Fewell Baughn, for ten dollars.
The History of Sugar Creek Baptist Church, 1830-1980, Sesquicentennial Edition, compiled for the September 7, 1980 Sesquicentennial Celebration, shows Letitia Sexton as the first burial (1810) and Jane Boughan (1816) second burial in Sugar Creek Baptist Cemetery. These mis-readings of the actual 1840 & 1846 dates have caused some confusion.
