Sallie Parker, 79 years of age, a member of an old and prominent Pulaski County, Kentucky family, departed this life on Tuesday morning, May 3rd, 1938 at 11:30 a.m. at her home at Cedar Hill. She had been in declining health for several months.
Sallie was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Elisha Franklin and Elizabeth "Eliza" Parker. She spent all her life in the Pulaski County community and had many friends. She was a teacher in the rural schools of Pulaski County and in the Somerset City schools for 40 years, and by her efficienoy as an instructor and by example she exerted a tremendous influence for good upon the lives of hundreds of pupils. She was a life-long member of the Methodist Church, and a woman of ideal Christian character and was devoted to the Church of her membership and to the finest Christian principles.
For a number of years she assisted her sister, Louise Parker, in the operation of a popular summer resort at Cedar Hill. She was highly successful in this enterprise and made many close personal friends from throughout Pulaski County, who were frequent guest at the Parker home. She was a woman of more than ordinary educational and cultural attainments. She possessed an even disposition, a pleasing personality, was charitable and unselfish in her dealings, all of which made her a greatly beloved and highly respected character.
She was survived by two brothers, William "Will" Parker of Cedar Hill, Kentucky and John L. Parker of Somerset, Kentucky; four sisters, Louise Parker of Cedar Hill, Kentucky, Mrs. Price T. Smith of London, Kentucky, Mrs. David Allen of Eagle Valley, Oregon, and Sophie M. Harrison (and her husband, J. Parker Harrison) of Monticello, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends who mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elisha Franklin Parker, who departed this life in 1916, and Elizabeth "Eliza" Gover Parker, who departed this life in 1886.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 5th, 1938 at 2:30 p.m. at her home with her brother-in-law, Rev. Price T. Smith of London, Kentucky officiating, he was assited by Rev. Charles Hogg.
Burial followed in the Parker Family Cemetery in Pulaski County, Kentucky.
