Father of Big Spring Man Dies In Abilene

ABILENE--H. M. Rainbolt, former Taylor county commissioner and resident of the Merkel community for 30 years, died at his home in Merkel, Thursday morning at 5:30 o'clock. In ill health for several years, Mr. Rainbolt contracted influenza two weeks ago, his condition becoming critical Tuesday night. He was 75 years old.
The funeral service was held Friday at 2:30 p. m. from the Merkel Methodist church, with Dr. W. M. Murrell, presiding elder of the Abilene district, officiating.
Death of Mr. Rainbolt was the first to occur in his immediate family, in which his wife, 8 children, 11 grandchildren and a great grandchild survive. The great grandchild is the eight-day-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Moody of Abilene. Children of Mr. Rainbolt are Mrs. E. A. Hargrove, Abilene; Mrs. C. A. Fryar, Albany; Sam G. Rainbolt, Dallas; Homer Rainbolt, Amarillo; Mrs. H. E. Britain, Abilene; Robert Rainbolt, Los Angeles, Calif.; H. M. Rainbolt, Jr., Big Spring; Miss Hazel Rainbolt, a teacher at San Juan, N. M. Three sisters, two living in Okalhoma[sic] and one at Port Arthur, also survive. Mr. Rainbolt's only brother, Bascom Rainbolt, died at Cisco, January 8, 1933, at the age of 84 years.
Native of Texas
 H. M. Rainbolt was born December 9, 1858, in Angelina county at Homer (now Lufkin), the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Rainbolt. He moved to Bosque county in childhood and to Stephens county in young manhood. He was married to Miss Carrie Bell Cook at Eolian, November 6, 1884.
Mr. Rainbolt engaged in stock farming in Stephens county until 1904, when he moved to Taylor county and established a farm home one and one-half miles south of Merkel. Failing health forced his retirement from farming in 1920 and that year the family moved to Merkel.
