EARL J. HITT:

The following was copied from the database of Earl J. Hitt in WorldConnect (no longer existent):

On 24 July 1748, Jacob was deed land in Fauquier County, Virginia by his brother, Henry, which would indicate that Jacob was of age but likely still unmarried. Henry and his wife, Anne, signed the deed but Jacob signed alone which would indicate that he was unmarried. it is believed that he married about the same year because his oldest son, Peter, was born on 1 November 1749.
The 1782-1785 tithables for Fauquier County lists Jacob, Sr., Jacob, Jr., Peter, James and Jesse Rector. The 1786 tithables list only Jacob Sr. and Jr. which would indicate that Peter, James and Jesse had away. The 1787 tithables list only Jacob, Jr. which would indicate that Jacob, Sr. had moved away. It is known that Peter, James and Jesse moved to Rowan County, North Carolina. James and Jesse are listed in the 1794 tithables for Grayson County, Virginia.
Jacob and his wife moved from Germantown to Rowan County, North Carolina where it is believed they lived from about 1787 to 1793. They are listed in the Grayson County, Virginia tithables from 1794 to 1809. On 18 May 1796, Jacob received a grant of 130 acres of land from the Commonwealth of Virginia located on Meadow Creek in Grayson County. In 1798, Jacob and his wife deed this land to his son, Bennet, but continued to live on the land until Jacob died in 1810. Jacob and his wife Mary Ann (died in 1813) are buried in a cemetery near Delhart, Grayson County, Virginia.
Jacob's will dated 31 July 1810, probated in July 1811, and filed in Grayson County, names his children.
