Notes
General:
The following is from Charlotte Hall, a great-granddaughter of Elmina Reese and John R. Snider.

Hiram was the second child of Henry and Elizabeth. He was born in Echola in 1842 and was named after his grandfather, Hiram White. He was nine years old when his mother died. His father married Hettie McGee and they continued to live in Echola until they sold their land in December 1853 and moved to the North River area of Tuscaloosa Co.

On March 5, 1862, he enlisted in the Civil War, Confederate States of America, Phelan's Company, Alabama Light Artillery. He was 20 years old. He served with his stepmother's brother, Joshua McGee, and his bother-in-law, John R. (Wright) Snyder.

On the Company Muster Roll in Mobile, Alabama, for the period December 28, 1861 to April 30, 1862, he was absent, sick at Tuscaloosa. During the period May and June, 1862, he was absent, "Detached Service Army Observation, Florida." He served in the Civil War as a Private for five months.

His death was listed on the Company Muster Roll for July and August, 1862. Hiram died August 12, 1862 at Mobile Hospital. He was probably buried in Mobile, Alabama, in an unmarked grave.
