General:
This Benjamin T. Reese is almost certainly part of the large extended family in Columbia and Warren Counties, Georgia consisting of descendants of Hugh Reese (1742-1825) and his brother Benjamin. Two sons of Hugh (Jeremiah and Benjamin) and one son of Benjamin (Jeremiah) had a son less than 10 in the 1820 census. Jeremiah, son of old Benjamin, had a son Benjamin T. Reese, who lived all of his adult life in Monroe Co., Mississippi. He cannot be this Benjamin T. Reese. The two sons of Hugh are missing in the 1830 census. Either could have been the father of this Benjamin T. Reese. Benjamin has been arbitrarily chosen as the father so that the son can be linked into the family.

In the Slave Schedule Ben Reese is the owner of 10 slaves. Benjamin T. Rees married his second wife Mrs. Martha F. Embre 8 Oct 1850. It is unlikely that his first wife was still alive one month earlier when the 1850 census was taken. Thus Cornelia is not his wife.
