INTERVIEW:
Interview with Jeff Reese, Jr. in Goldthwaite, Texas in January 1984:
Uncle Buck (James B. Reese) was a half-brother to W. T.; Lewis and John were full brothers. Uncle Buck was an itinerant preacher with a large family. He named his sons Matthew, Mark, Luke, and probably John. Jeff, Jr. knew Emmett Reese, one of Buck's sons, who worked on the railroad as an engineer.

Fort Worth Star Telegram, Monday, May 6, 1935, Morning City Edition, pg 13
Retired Minister Dies at Handley
Rev. J. D. Reese, 77, retired Baptist preacher, died at the home of a son, William Reese of Handley, at 8 p.m. yesterday. The body is at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington pending arrangements.
Rev. Mr. Reese' last pastorate was at the Glen Cove Baptist Church in Coleman. Survivors are the widow, four sons, T. L. Reese and William Reese, of Handley, E. M. Reese of Yoakum and F. P. Reese of San Angelo; one daughter, Mrs. Joe Evans of Lometa; 25 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A subsequent version of the obituary indicates that the funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the home of his son William and that burial will be in Parkdale Cemetery in Arlington.
NAME:
The oldest brother of James B. Reese was named John Tyler Reese and was born in November, 1841. John Tyler was then president, and he was obviously named for the president. James B. Reese was born in September, 1857 while James Buchanan was president. I think it is very likely that his middle name was Buchanan, which led naturally to the nickname 'Buck'.
