MIDDLE NAME:

There is documentary evidence that the middle name of William G. Reese's son Jordan G. Reese was Gibbs. It is therefore probable (but not certain) that Williams's middle name was Gibbs.

BEDFORD CO., VIRGINIA PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX LIST:

There is an overabundance of William Reeses in Bedford Co., and it is difficult to be sure which entries in the personal property tax list correspond to which William. A certain William Reese always has "BS" in parentheses after his name. "BS" might stand for 'blacksmith' although no one else in the tax list is associated with an occupation. "BS" might mean something else. William Reese (BS) is in the list for the first time in 1813 and is there continuously until 1829 except for 1826 and 1827. He never owns a slave. Sometimes he has one horse, sometimes none, and occasionally two.

William G. Reese was 21 in about 1813, and he probably left Virginia to go to Tennessee at about the same time as his brothers did, which was about 1831. William Reese (BS) always lived in the Northern District as did the brothers of William G. Reese. Twice the entry of William Reese (BS) is contiguous with the entry of Robert W. Reese, a younger brother of William G. Reese, and twice William Reese (BS) is contiguous with John Reese, William G. Reese's uncle. Probably William Reese (BS) is William G. Reese.

BEDFORD CO., TENNESSEE:

The following deed shows that William Reese had left Virginia and was living in Tennessee by 1831.

On May 26, 1831 William Reese of Bedford Co., Tennessee conveys to James Woodford of Bedford Co., Virginia for and in consideration of one wagon and one horse all his remaining interest in the estate of Thomas Woodford, dec'd, of the state and county aforesaid to which he is entitled in right of his wife Catharine, late Catharine Woodford, one of the children of the said decedent. This conveyance does not affect a payment of $500 from the estate, already received by William Reese. Signed William Rees. (Bedford Co. Virginia Deed Book 22, pg 360)
