The marker mistakenly gives his birth year as 1834. The following comment was added to the memorial by William Miller on 1 Jul 2012:

"William Augustus Reese b: 1826 in Georgia d: 28 Jan 1865 in Quitman, Ga. This could be Quitman in Brooks County, Ga, or in Quitman County, Ga. This marker is a Memorial marker only-it was placed here by great great grandaughter, Llena Gilbert Drake, Fact 1: 1860 Census listed him in Early County, Georgia, 34 years old and an overseer. Fact 2: Joined Confederate Army as a private in Company G. 29 Battalion Ga. Volunteers. Wounded in 1864 and died in a field hospital. Buried in Quitman, (I think Quitman Co., Ga, however, others believe in Quitman, Brooks County, Ga.)"
