All that was mortal of Mrs. T. E. C. Martin passed away Saturday morning, November 26, 1904, at 3 o'clock. Her illness was of short duration.
she arrived home from batesville, Ark., Saturday, November 19. She was taken with a severe case of pneumonia enroute home, from which she never recovered.

Mrs. Martin was born in Alabama in 1830 and at the age of 19 she married J. A. Killian. In 1858 they moved to Arkansas, and in 1861 her husband cast his lot with the Southern Confederacy, and gave his life for the Southern cause, six children were the fruits of this happy union, four of whom are still living.

The deceased was married to Judge T. D. Martin, of Moutainview, Ark., in 1871. She survived him five years, he died in 1899, since that time she has resided with her youngest daughter, Mrs. Dr. Z. W. Casey of this city.

Mrs. Martin was a true type of the Southern woman. She was a woman wit strong convictions; she had been a member of the Baptist church for 55 years and her christian character was without stain or blemish. What she believed she proclaimed it, aged it and lived it. She lived an eventful life , she passed through that great civil struggle which tried the hearts and the souls of our Southern mothers but, like a gaint oak, she survived the trying ordeals.

The funeral services were conducted at the family residence: Dr. D. R. T. Hanks, of Stamford, conducted the funeral services, and her last remains were interred in the Albany Cemetery in the presence of a large congreation of friends and relatives and her last resting place was decorated with beautiful flowers by loving hands.

To the bereaved family, and especially to the loving daughter who stood at her bedside until the very last, and with loving hands administered to her wants. The journey of our life lies along the dark valley of the shadow of death. There is no spot on its pilgrimage wherein his presence is unknown: there is no family over whose heartstone his somber shadows do not fall; there is always somewhere some life that is weeping, some heart that is bleeding, some home whose light is extingushed and whose altars are draped in mourning. "Death is a black camel that kneels at the gates of all." He crosses the threshold of all and hangs his crepe upon every door knob.

Mourn not that the silver cord has been snapped asunder and the golden bowl has been broken. Mother has safely crossed the turbulent stream and is now becking you on.
