4081-3. vi. JUSTICE JOSPEH STRONG b. Dec. 2, 1672, m. in 1694, Sarah Allen b. Aug. 22, 1672 (dau. of Nehemiah Allen of Northampton and Sarah Woodford). . . .

She d. and he m. Sept. 15, 1724, for 2d wife Ruth (name not discovered) of Coventry, Ct. He removed from Northampton to Coventry, in March, 1716, seven years after the first settlement of that town. He was a farmer, and a man of property and consideration. He held various town offices of importance, as town treasurer in 1716; selectman for six years; and justice of the peace for many years from 1723 onwards. In 1721, the first year that Coventry was represented in the Colonial Legislature, he was sent to it as the representative of the town. There were two sessions yearly of the Legislature, in May and October, until 1819. Justice Joseph Strong was for fifty-two times elected a member of the Legislature and including extra sessions was during sixty-five sessions a member of the General Assembly of Connecticut. He was moderator of the first town-meeting held April 24, 1718, and often afterwards of others, holding the office for the last time April 11, 1763, when 90 years old. He was a member of the Colonial Legislature for the last time in May, 1762, when 89 years old, his son Phinehas being the other representative with him from Coventry. . . . He d. Dec. 23, 1763, at 91. His children were all by the first marriage, and were all, except Phinehas, born in Northampton. His widow Ruth d. at Glastenbury, Ct., Feb. 14, 1768.
