Notes
General:
The following, slightly reformatted to improve readability, is from Byberry Waltons (Norman Walton Swayne, 1958), pgs 41-42.

72 BENJAMIN WALTON (4), died probably 10.3.1795 in Phila., son of 26 Daniel Walton & Elizabeth Clifton of Byberry Twp, Phila. Co., Pa., married Catherine, died probably the same day and place. This is from Isaac Comly's obituary notes, which say in giving the 1757 death of the above Daniel that he had a son Benjamin, and also say Benjamin & wife died as above.

Feb. 28, 1787 Benjamin & Catherine, late of Byberry, now of Southwark in Phila., deeded to Mary McKaskran of same for 275 pounds a house and lot on the E side of 2nd St. between Almond & German, 17' 1 1/2" front on 2nd, rec'd 6 March 1783 from Joseph Richardson, subject to yearly rent of 16 Spanish coined Milled Dollars.

Although there is no positive proof of any children, there is evidence, which fits together fairly well, that there were at least nine: Benjamin Wa1ton Jr late of Lower Dublin, now of Southwark in Phila. Co., who in 1786 with wife Martha, daughter of Jacob & Mary Laughlin, deeded a tract in Lower Dublin Twp, seems to have been a son. So does Samuel Walton, who as admr of Arnold Richardson's estate, had real estate dealings with George Walton and Thomas Walton, who are likely to have been other sons. From time, place and. connections Hiram Walton appears to have been a 5th son. Various wills establish that George had four sisters, named below as probable daughters of 72 Benjamin. In concluding that these could not have been children of 44 Benjamin Walton & Catherine Williamson, who in 1783 sold the remainder of their Byberry farm and may have removed elsewhere, and who were not Friends, the evident Friends connections of several of nine children are strong reasons. Samuel was a Friend, disowned by Abington Mtg and later reinstated, his wife was one, at least in later life, so were children of George and Hiram. George's daughter Mary Ann was a Friends minister. Moreover, if the death date and age of George are correct, he was born about 1755, before the marriage of 44 "Black Ben" Walton. Moreover, if Samuel had been even the 1st child of "Black Ben" he must have married at 19 a woman of 24, which would have been unusual. So the nine below are here considered children of 72 "White Ben" Walton. No reference to such a color has been found, but 72 evidently is the one from whom "Black Ben" had to be distinguished. These Byberry Twp tax listings may refer to either: 1769 Benjamin Sr 140 acres 3 horses 4 cattle tax 16.18.8, 1779 tax 2.0.0, 1780 valuation 2500 tax 50.0.0, 1783, 160 acres 3 horses 3 cattle 12 sheep. The last three years records do not say Sr or Jr. The nine supposed children:

194 George b ab 1755 d 1851 m Rachel Duncan b 1761 d 1849

197 Susan d 1840 not married

200 Alice prob. not married NFM

MARRIAGE DATE:

In "Pennsylvania and New Jersey, U.S., Church and Town Records, 1669-2013" at ancestry.com the marriage date of Benjamin Walton and Cathrine William at Trinity Church Oxford in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is 8 Nov 1756. The facsimile copy of the original record is not readable.

If they were married in 1756, then their son Samuel was not born in 1750, as suggested by Swayne.
