Notes
General:
The following, slightly reformatted to improve readability, is from Byberry Waltons (Norman Walton Swayne, 1958), pgs 34-35:

52 WILLIAM WALTON (4), son of 9 Malachi Walton & Mary Gandonett of Bristol, Bucks Co., Pa., was baptized July 15, 1741 at Bristol, from records of St. Mary's P. E. Church of Burlington, N. J. and married by June 9, 1767 Mary Russell, called in a Phila. deed of July 2, 1771 only issue and heiress of James Russell, late of Phila., mariner, for on that day in 1767 William & Mary of Upper Salford deeded 300 acres of William's tract of 800 acres to George Hertzel.

Oct. 29, 1768 they joined with others in the deed mentioned under his father. Dec. 13, 1768, still of Upper Salford, they sold 249 acres to Ulrich Stouffer. July 2, 1771 then of Bucks Co., they sold separately to James Cooper and Mary Comron two Phila. lots which had been inherited by Mary from her father. March 12, 1773 a deed was drawn between William, eldest son and heir of Mary Walton, daughter of Francis Gandonett & Mary, and John Gandonett, Mary's eldest brother, apparently a division of inheritance. William was then of Berqumin (sic) Twp, Bucks Co. March 3, 1774 William Walton and David Walton were warrantees for land in Phila. Co., amount not stated in Pa. Archives, apparently the warrant mentioned below, recorded in Montgomery Co. All the above deeds are on record in Phila. 2 July 1771, the same day as two deeds above, but recorded 1876, William Walton of Bensalem Twp, Yeoman, & wife Mary, only issue and heiress at law and also a devisee in the will of James Russell of Phila., Mariner, deeded to Nathaniel Browne of there, Blacksmith, for 18 pounds 6s 8d, a parcel 51' from the N side of Sassafras St. between Front and 2nd Sts. from Delaware, 20' wide and 16' long by other land of William & Mary, bounded W by a piece to be granted to James Cooper, rec'd 12 Nov. 1753 by James Russell. Oct. 10, 1775 William Walton of Bristol Twp, Bucks Co. & wife Mary deeded 238 acres in Franconia Twp along Perkioming Creek to Dilman Kolp Jr of there, part of 551 acres in Upper Salford Twp granted 4.10.1718 by the Commissioners of Property to Francis Gandonett, practitioner of physic. A warrant of resurvey in 1774 gave 249 of the said 501 (sic) acres to William Walton, and the rest, 251 acres, to David Walton. Mary Gandonett, daughter of Francis, had died by 1772, had formerly been wife of the father of said William Walton but later married Joseph Severns. This deed and the next were recorded in Montgomery Co. Apr. 1, 1774, William & wife Mary as just above deeded to Ulrich Stouffer six acres of the above tract.

The next five deeds are on record in Bucks Co.: 31 Dec. 1772 William Walton of Bensalem Twp rec'd for 200 pounds 100 acres on Neshaminy Creek and 4 March 1773 he & wife Mary gave a 300 pounds mortgage on the same 100 acres, in Bristol Twp. By about 1940 this was not marked satisfied. 4 Oct. 1776 William Walton of Bristol loaned James DeNormandie 200 pounds and took a mortgage for it. 31 July 1779 William Walton of Bensalem Twp was one of three attorneys in a sale for Thomas Barton & wife Sarah, formerly DeNormandie. 10th mo 3rd 1779 William Walton of Bristol Twp, Gentleman, & wife Mary deeded for ten pounds two acres of 130 acres along Newtown Road and 25 March 1782 they deeded for 800 pounds 130 acres in Bristol Twp along Newtown Road rec'd Dec. 1, 1774 by William for 600 pounds.

William was on tax lists: 1769 Upper Salford Twp 150 acres 4 horses 2 servants tax 19.7.0, 1779 Bristol Twp 354 acres 10 horses 10 cattle 3 servants. Probably he kept an inn, as did his father and his supposed son Benjamin. He was taxed in Bristol 1781 for l28 acres 4 horses 3 cattle 4 servants.

He is supposed to be the one mentioned in the minutes of the Committee of Safety of Bucks Co., which began July 9, 1774, at Newtown, Gilbert Hicks Esq Chairman and William Walton Clerk. Dec. 26, 1775 it was reported to the committee that William Walton had drank damnation to the Congress, etc. A com. of five to inquire. Dec. 30, 1775 four of the Com. met but Mr. Walton objected on acct of absence of the fifth who was sick, so they adjourned to Jan. 6, when Mr. Walton appeared, but objected to answer until he saw his accusers face to face. The com. waited from eleven o'clock in the morning until four in the afternoon, the witnesses nor any of them appearing, though directed and having promised to attend. Held under advisement until next meeting, and com. requested to have a strict regard to the conduct of sd. Walton during that time.

William Walton of Bristol Twp owned seven slaves in 1782, when the slave registration law caused registration of 520 in that county. No other Walton was listed there as a slave holder. A document with three red wax seals at the Chester Co. Hist. Soc. says William Walton of Middletown Twp, Chester Co. & wife Mary formerly Mary Russell, signed May 12, 1788 an appointment of Ralph Bowie Esq of Phila. as their attorney to take possession of property to which Mary was entitled as heiress at law of Michael Russell, late of Edinburgh, Gentleman. William Walton of Upper Providence Twp, Delaware Co., Pa., which was made from part of Chester Co., was in the 1790 census as head of a family of one male over 16, one under 16, five females and one slave, the only Pa. Walton slaveholder found in that census.

From location, time and the natures of the men, 52 William probably was father of Benjamin and Nathaniel below, and possibly also of Joseph:

151 Benjamin b ab 1768 d perhaps 1818 prob. m by 1790 a Severns, m 2nd 1808 Mary Swift b 1759 d 1856
