From 1792 until 1812 there are generally two James Browns in the tax list. They are sometimes in the same district, but more commonly they are in different districts. There are 2 districts: northern and southern. There are many Browns in Bedford Co. Probably one of the James Browns is the husband of Rhoda Reese.

On September 3, 1803 James Brown of Bedford Co., Virginia sells to Jurden Rese of the same place various articles of personal property for 30 pounds. Included are one brindle cow & heffer, two fether beds & furniture, one bedsted, one Chest & Table, two pots & oven, three puter Dishes & ten plates & one doz'n Spoons, one Cotton Wheel, two Iron pot racks, seven Chairs, one ax & one plow, one Hog, One Trunk & dae Chist.
