CAROLINE CO., VIRGINIA PERSONAL TAX LIST:

Personal tax records are available from 1783 onward. Thomas Carnal first appears in the tax list in 1795 as a tithable greater than 16 in the household of William Carnal, Jr. If he became 16 in 1795 he was born about 1779. The following year he has an entry of his own and is described as "son of Will". He is in the list from 1798 to 1801 as "Thomas Carnal, Jr.". In 1796 he has 1 horse; otherwise he has no property.

There is another Thomas Carnal in the tax list, who is a son of the widow Elizabeth Carnal. He appears for the first time in 1793. The Thomas Carnal in 1797 could be either a son of Elizabeth or of William, Jr.
