George was married to Christean Michael Jan. 3, 1787 in Rowan Co., N.C. They settled on Racoon Creek in Pike Co. George died in 1859. It is said that Christean was a full bloodied Cherokee(unverified). They had the following known children:

LAND in ORANGE CO., NORTH CAROLINA:

On February 3, 1792 Jesse Phillips and Mary, his wife, of Orange Co. sell to George Charles of the same place for £67 a tract of 150 acres in Orange Co. on the south side of Haw River. It was obtained from the state by Jesse Phillips. Dry Creek is one of the boundaries. (4/662)

On September 24, 1796 George Charles of Orange Co. sells to Conrad Farmer of the same place for £80 a tract of 150 acres in Orange Co. on the south side of Haw River, being a tract obtained from the state by Jesse Phillips. One of the boundaries is Dry Creek. The document is signed "something ___________ in dutch" where the middle part is not legible. It was delivered to Sam'l James. (6/444)

On October 26, 1796 Samuel James of Orange Co. sells to George Charles of the same place for £80 a tract of 300 acres in Orange Co. on the waters of Dry Creek and the Little Allamance. It is described by metes and bounds. Signed Samuel (his X mark) James. (8/79)

George must have gone to Ashe County with Samuel and Sarah because in 1806 he entered 200 acres on Little Pine Creek adjacent to his land and Samuel James' land.

Ashe County, NC Land Entries Feb. 1800-Jun 1809 - p. 109, 1509. Feb 10, 1806 George "Charls" enters 200 ac in Ashe Co on Little Pine Cr; border: begins on is own line, includes the vacant land between Wm Cunningham, Sam Games [of James], & his own line.

RUSSELL CO., VIRGINIA:

From 1810 to 1814 George Charles is in the personal property tax lists of Russell Co. He is absent in 1809 and in 1815, and he is never in the land tax lists. The columns are 'white tithables', 'slaves over 16', 'slaves over 12 and under 16', 'horses, mares, colts, mules'. Males 16 and older are tithable according to

On page 424 of Orange Co., North Carolina Will Book D there is a power of attorney from George Charles of Russell Co., Virginia to Joseph Gibson of Guilford Co., North Carolina to collect his part of the estate of "my father Michael Charles lately deceased of Orange County". It is dated July 22, 1813 and was proved in February 1815. The witnesses are Andrew Gibson and Zachariah Phillips.
