Last will and testament of Francis Cheatham of Manchester Parish, written December 3, 1785 and signed Francis (his + mark) Cheatham.

Daughter Martha Hill -- 8 named Negroes now in her possession and whatever he has given her.

Daughter Jane Turpin -- 3 named Negroes and whatever he has given her, during her natural life and at her death to be equally divided among her children.

Daughter Phebe Rudd -- 3 named Negroes and whatever he has given her, at her death to be equally divided among her children.

Grandson Francis Lockett -- "I give and bequeath unto my Grand Son Francis Lockett one Negro man named Sam and if he dies before he receives him, the said Negro shall be made good out of my Estate to him and his Heirs forever".

Grandson James Cheatham -- "all my Land and Plantation whereon I now live", being 300 acres by estimation; 5 named Negroes; all household furniture; 1/3 part of horses, cattle, sheep, and hogs.

Everything not already given away to be equally divided "among my Children, viz Henry Cheatham Martha Hill Jane Turpin and Phebe Rudd and my Grand Son James Cheatham and that my two Grand Sons James Lockett and Francis Lockett have One Childs part to be equally divided between they two all which I give to them and their Heirs forever"

"My Will and Desire is that my Plantation and Negroes that I have given my Grand Son James Cheatham be not Hired nor Rented, but kept together on the Place till my said Grand Son comes of age and if my said Grand Son James Cheatham dies before he comes of age my Will is that my Grandson Francis Cheatham shall Have my said Land and Plantation and that my three Daughters which are now living shall have his Negroes, and what else I have left him, to them and their Heirs forever."
