General:

John Christopher is in Philadelphia city directories from 1829 until 1839 as a lumber merchant. His lumber yard is at 310 S 4th. From 1833 until 1839 he lives at 159 Catharine. In 1840 and later John Christopher ceases to be in the directories. He probably died. After 1844 his brother-in-law, David Etter, lives at 159 Catharine. From 1823 until 1825 there is a grocer named John Christopher in the city directories. His address in 1825 is 306 S 4th, which is very close to the later address of the lumber yard. These two John Christophers are probably the same person.
