In 1880 Thomas (23, Ar Ky Tn, farmer) is living as a boarder with Charles Hammond (20, Ar, farmer), and Price is living as a boarder with someone else. Their father has presumably died.
The census suggests that Henry's second wife is Sarah E. Hammond, who already had a son Charles, and that she then had 2 more children, Milton and Edward, by Henry Cole.
ARRIVAL IN ARKANSAS:
The birthplace of Henry's son Henry suggests that they were in Arkansas by 1846. He is not on the Izard Co. tax roll in 1846. He appears there for the first time in 1847. In 1847 he owns no land, but in 1848 and subsequently he is a landowner. His father-in-law and his brother-in-law Andrew J. Hinkle appear to have arrived in 1846. They probably came together.
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:
A biographical sketch of his son Jonathan says the following about Henry Cole:
"His parents, Henry and Serena (Hinkle) Cole, had ten children, six of whom are now living, viz.: James, Thomas, Price, Jonathan, Mary, wife of J. A. Mosely, and Tennie C., who married W. M. Lafevers. . . . Henry Cole was born in North Carolina in 1819, and removed to Tennessee with his parents when a child; in 1846 he located on a farm in Izard County, Ark., where he lived until his death, which occurred in 1871; he was a very prominent man, and held several public offices, serving as county judge and probate judge several years; he was also an active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and was a member of the A. F. & A. M."
SECOND WIFE:
Henry Cole's tombstone says that he is the husband of Sarah E. Cole, and the 1870 census shows that he remarried between 1860 and 1870. His second wife was much younger, and he had one or two more children.
