J. R. Lamar is buried next to Benjamin F. Lamar in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Delaware Co., Oklahoma. It seems likely that J. R. is the father of Benjamin F.
The tombstone reads "J. R. Lamar" and has a Masonic symbol. The entry in Find A Grave is for "James R. Lamar" and says
He married Elizabeth Paden, and they were the parents of Mary Elmira, Benjamin Franklin, William J., Sarah Caroline, Ewing Taylor, Martha Elizabeth, and Jesse S. Lamar.

According to the tribal census for her son Jesse S. Lamar, Elizabeth Lamar was 1/8 Cherokee and her husband Jas. R. Lamar was white.
