CIVIL WAR:

The Roster of Union Soldiers 1861--1865 Kentucky, Tennessee:

Wesley Grinstead 8th Inf. Co. B, A

Two of his cousins (Joel P., George T.) also served in the 8th Infantry.

According to Official Army Register of the Volunteer Force of the United States Army 1861--1865, Volume IV, the Eighth Infantry Regiment was organized at Camp Dick Robinson and Lebanon, Kentucky from October 1, 1861 to January 25, 1862 to serve three years. It was consolidated into a battalion of 5 companies in January 1864 and retained in service until November 17, 1864 when it was mustered out by reason of expiration of term of service.

Aged 72 years. Wife of Wesley Grinstead; died in Chattanooga, TN.

Mary E. Dryer is the daughter of Daniel A. Dryer and Mary A. Wilkinson. She first married Dr. Joshua W. Jones on 3 Sep 1868 in Normal, Grant county, Indiana. This was his second marriage. He died on 11 Oct 1883 in Ball Township, Sangamon county, Illinois. She married Wesley Grinstead, born 1 Jun 1841 in Madison County, Kentucky, on 10 Feb 1889. This was also Wesley's second marriage.

Word was received last night by Mrs. William R. Vredenburgh of the death earlier in the day of Mrs. Mary Grinstead, wife of Wesley Grinstead, at the family residence at Chattanooga, Tenn. The remains will arrive in this city Saturday morning over the Chicago & Alton railroad. Interment will be made in Oak Ridge cemetery. The decedent was a former resident of Ball township.
