A summary follows:

Charles Clabaugh, presumed son of John2 Clabaugh, was born before 1755 in Frederick Co., Maryland and may have been named for an uncle, Charles Hedges. He married Elizabeth Hill 17 Aug 1779. They apparently had only one child. In the 1790 and 1800 censuses only one boy is living with them. He was born 1785-1790.

About 1800 Charles and his presumed brother John3 Clabaugh made the long trek to East Tennessee where they settled on Middle Creek in Sevier Co. Charles received his patent for 219 acres on 30 Sep 1808, being shown as Charles Sr. 'Sr.' possibly serves to distinguish him from his nephew Charles, son of John3, although Charles's son, of whom nothing further is known, may have also been named Charles.
