Benjamin Hinds

Just as the day began to dawn on the morning of Dec. 29, 1910, while wife, children and friends stood around his bedside, the spirit of "Uncle" Ben Hinds took its flight into the Great Beyond, nevermore to return to walk with men.
Benjamin Hinds was born near Bowling Green, Ky., Aug. 22, 1844. He was brought, when but a baby, by his parents to Miller county, Mo. They remained there for several years, and came to Kansas in 1857. During the civil war the home was broken up and the family was compelled to move from place to place. Later they settled on a farm near the State line east of Pleasanton. When quite young he was stricken with a disease which left him a cripple for life. This affliction he bore uncomplainingly.
October 6, 1974[sic] he was married to Miss Delia Allman. To this union eight children were born, five of whom survive him, and were with him at the time of his death.
He lived on a farm near Amoret, Mo., for about 16 years before coming to Pleasanton, three years ago. This has been his tell[sic] the end came. He united with the Christian church about fourteen years ago, and lived a consisetnt[sic] christian life till the end.
For more than 20 years he had been a sufferer from the dreaded disease that finally won the victory over him. During all these years . . .
