BIRTH and DEATH:

According to http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/b/j/o/Johnny-L-Bjorndahl-LA/index.html Daniel M. Hitt was born 16 Sep 1829 and died 26 Aug 1903 and is buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery, House, Mississippi. Johnny L. Bjorndahl is a descendant. Beatrice Myers and Vada Phillips on page 158 in their book have the same information and additonally say that his tombstone reads "Was 75 yrs, 11 mo, and 10 days." If both the death date and the age are correct, then he was born September 16, 1827. In the 1900 census he says he was born August 1832, and his age in 4 other censuses (1850 and later) supports a birth year between 1830 and 1833. In 1840 there is no slot available for him in his father's household, but if he were born in 1830 or later, he might be living in 1840 in the household of his uncle Marshall Hitt. Since two other children of David Hitt were born in Dec 1831 and Jul 1834, I will choose September 1830 as a convenient compromise. He probably was born on September 16. People remember birthdays, even if they are unsure about ages.

Because he is an heir in the will of David Hitt, we can be confident that David is his father.

CIVIL WAR:

A Daniel M. Hitt was a soldier in the 40th Mississippi Infantry, Co. E according to the "Roster of Confederdate Soldiers".
