General:
GERMANNA RECORD NO. 1, pg 31:

Jesse Hitt b. Feb. 18, 1757 m. Ann Rector.

PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX LISTS:

1782 is the first year that a list of men required to pay a tax on personal property is available for Fauquier Co., Virginia. From 1782 until 1800 Jesse Hitt is in the list. Presumably he left Fauquier Co. about 1801. In 1797 and in 1798 his son William is a tithable in his household; in 1799 Spencer and William are there; and in 1800 John S. Hitt is there. Jesse's entry is routinely close to that of his father. Sometimes he has 1 slave and sometimes none; the number of horses gradually rises from 2 to 7.

LAND TAX LISTS:

Land Tax Lists are first available for Fauquier Co. in 1783. From 1783 to 1794 Jesse Hitt owns 100 acres worth £50 on which he pays a tax of 15 shillings.

CHILDREN:

See notes under his father Harman Hitt concerning a lawsuit to sell a tract of land belonging to Jesse's brother Daniel and distribute the proceeds among the heirs.
