It is said that in about 1830, John Russell and his brother, Dudley Hitt, walked with a wagon train from Culpeper County, Virginia to Shelbyville, Tennessee. According to Jesse Martin Hitt, John Russell and Dudley both had large families after moving to Tennessee.
