In 1810 there are 2 very similar census entries for Jonathan Jones in Chester Co., South Carolina. Neither is a perfect match for the known birth dates of the children of this Jonathan, but both match fairly well. Presumably one of the entries is for this Jonathan, son of William, and the other is for Jonathan Jr., son of Jonathan, Sr.

He is in the sequence A. P. Jones, Nancy Jones, J. Jones. The woman 20-30 is probably their daughter Ann, born in 1803, who will marry William Montgomery. One of the women 30-40 is presumably their daughter Catherine, born in 1794, who did not marry. Their granddaughter Rebecca was born in 1818.
In 1840 Elizabeth Jones is presumably the woman 70-80 in the household of her son John D. Jones in Chester Co.
In 1850 Elizabeth Jones (84, Pa) is living in Carroll Co., Tennessee in the household of Ann Jones (34, Ireland). Robert Gill (34, SC, blacksmith) lives 2 entries away. Catharine Jones (50, SC) is in his household.
TWO JONATHAN JONES:
There are two Jonathan Jones in Chester Co. of roughly the same age. They are first cousins. One is a son of Jonathan Jones, Sr. and the other is a son of William Jones. It is not entirely clear which of the older men is the father of this Jonathan Jones married to Elizabeth Downing. A clue is the name of one of his daughters - Jenney Simpson Jones. William's wife was Catherine Simpson. Hence, we conclude that the father of this Jonathan is William.
Another connection involves occupation. This Jonathan Jones bequeaths a set of blacksmith's tools to his son John D. Jones. William Jones is identified in a deed as a blacksmith.
LAND in CHESTER CO., SOUTH CAROLINA:
On July 26, 1774 the Honorable William Bull, Esquire, Lt. Governor of the Province of South Carolina, granted unto John Brown a plantation of 150 acres on the south side of the South Fork of Fishing Creek in Cravin County, and on March 9, 1779 John Brown conveyed this tract to William Jones. On May 5, 1786 William Jones, blacksmith, of Chester Co., South Carolina and his wife Catharine sell to their son Jonathan Jones of the same place for and in consideration of 50 pounds sterling of the state of South Carolina this tract of 150 acres.

MARRIAGE:
On 4 Dec 1843 Elizabeth Jones, widow of Johnathan Jones, appeared before the county court of Carroll Co., Tennessee in order to apply for a widow's pension based on the Revolutionary War service of her deceased husband. She is 78 years old. She states that she married Johnathan Jones in Chester District, South Carolina on March 8, 1787, that he drew a pension of $60 a year for several years before his death, and that he died August 4, 1835 in Chester District since which time she has remained a widow. MIGRATION:
Jonathan Jones died in South Carolina in 1835. In the 1840 census 3 of his sons, 3 married daughters and their husbands, his unmarried daughter Catherine, his widow, and his granddaughter Rebecca and her husband Robert Gill are in Carroll Co., Tennessee. The birth states of Jonathan's grandchildren in the 1850 census suggest that most of his children migrated to Tennessee in about 1832. His youngest son John D. Jones and Robert Gill probably came to Tennessee in the late 1830s.
In the 1840 and 1850 censuses the migrants are living close together.
